This was a nice easy, cost-effective way to try out DDR. I'd never played DDR before. The pad responds snappily to light taps or stomps. As people say about soft pads, it can slip and fold a bit if you stomp heavily and especially with bare feet, but it's still fun to play (and I'm ordering a second so my partner and I can play together).
The USB is a nice way to get started, though it's not too hard to install things separately and a faster drive for song downloading would be nice. After some playing, I have swapped from StepMania to ITGMania (a more recently active fork), put a Portable.ini in the main directory next to Songs so I can play on my gaming computer or my laptop, and moved a bunch of songs out of the songs folder since it slows things down and I'm mostly enjoying DDR Mix 1, DDR Super Nova, and DDR Galaxy.
Wasn't sure that $2000 was going to be worth it, but it feels just like the arcade. Only minor gripe is that a lot of the screws on top came in loose and kept backing out. I put some locktite on them and its been good since then.
Great quality. Works right out of the box. Accurate steps.
This dance pad is amazing. Had trouble with the previous pad as i use Linux. But with this dance pad, it worked as soon as i plugged it in and was playing DDR and mappong keys and such for other convenient use. I might have to buy another in case anything happens to this one. Always gotta have an extra of something if reasonably possible. Definitely a satisfied customer. DANCE DANCE!
I am using my 2024 Mac. Easy setup and it worked using a USB-A to USB-C adapter since I have no USB-A ports. I am using Project Outfox and it has been easy to learn and customize.
Received on time for the Holidays - very happy wife!
Going to get back into it thanks to you guys.
Perfect if you want a mat that isn't flimsy, but is much more portable than the standard metal ones. Easy to put in a closet when not in use. You will definitely notice that the buttons are slightly smaller than standard.
This is exactly what I wanted. I wanted to get back into DDR as well as introduce it to my two daughters, this PAD is exactly what I wanted, and now I know it is exactly what I needed to start.
Everything works beautifully! Construction is solid and setup was a breeze! Love it!
Bought for my wife. She loves it. Setup was a bit difficult but we got it figured out without too much trouble. Now it works like a dream.
Works great! I can now move my DDR cab by playing music.
So we've been using our pad for several months now, I was concerned it would quickly rip or the buttons wouldn't work, but surprisingly, it's doing fine, even after several uses by two large adults. We used free software to pair it up with Step Mania. I'm surprised at how well it works, given that it's just a soft pad.
It's convenient that it can be rolled up or packed away easily.
However, if I was buying again, I'd get a harder pad second time around. This one has a tendency to scrunch, especially if you're not wearing socks (I recommend wearing socks) and I have a feeling the game would just be easier to play if it didn't scrunch around so much as you are using it. Our pad is on a rug, I don't know if that's better or worse than hardwood for scrunching, I suspect better.
If 40 dollars is pushing your budget, this will work fine if you don't mind the scrunching. If you can afford a little more though, I'd go for a harder model than this one, especially if getting a good score is important to you.
We bought it to make getting some cardio more fun, which it definitely does, so we're not super concerned with the score, my only concern is if it gets my heart rate up, and it does that just fine, it excels, DDR is TOUGH! We play on easy, and we take turns with the one pad (my partner and I) and we're WIPED out after 30 minutes.
So overall, it's better made than I was expecting! -1 star for the scrunching, other than that, no complaints!
Long time DDR enthusiast and player (since DDR 1st Mix 1998/1999). Have purchased and used many dance mats (a few soft ones and a number of hard pads and custom pads). This L-TEK Core pad is very responsive and definitely sensitive enough without having to do any mods (like the penny mod). I many play in socks, so its perfect for that. I would not recommend using shoes for this type of pad since it not designed for it compared to an arcade pad (or one that is designed similar to it). The only thing I would recommend with this pad is to get a rubber drawer liner (found at a dollar store) to place under to pad if your pad slides during your gameplay. The dance pad barely moves with the rubber feet it has, but on some occasions on carpet, it seems to move/shift slightly after Hard songs. And I wish these models can just include a simple LED for each panel to use as indicators when each panel is stepped on. I would mod in LED's just for that diagnostic purpose. I really don't care if its super bright, it just needs to be visible for testing, or for those that are new to playing. Definitely one of the best home dance pads (hard type) that I have ever used with a high quality build and well-priced for those that do not have a huge budget for the $1000+ arcade type pads. Bang for the buck for sure.
Bought this for my son as an early Christmas present. He loves it! The build quality is very solid and amazingly thin! Works great. Thanks!
Received my card quickly and works great! Easy to setup
Works instantly and as described. Couldn't be easier.
i dont have this pad but my friend say its very good
So after 3 weeks of testing this pad I can definitely say that what you're paying for is what you're getting.
It's great! Do not get me wrong, but, within the first 3 days of light use (PIU Lvl. 2-6 charts and DDR 4-7) there were some notable things such as some of the sensors not working for the arrows or rather inputs where not being recognized when stepping. I expected this would've been an issue that happened but not as soon as it did which disappointed me a bit due to the expensive shipping I had to pay (almost half the price while on the US).
That said, I do believe it was a good product for someone that lives quite far from an arcade and served as a good introduction for my wife to learn how to play pad rhythm games. I did wish the bottom of the pad came with some anti-slip material as the pad almost made me slide to a fall several times! Just that would've made my review 5 stars.
