How to Map a Dance Pad with StepMania

Step 1: Open the StepMania program on your computer.

Step 2: Select Options Menu.

Step 4: Scroll down till you see "Left, Right, Up, Down"

Step 5: Scroll to where it says "Left" then press Enter on your keyboard and the line will start blinking

Step 6: Step on the left arrow of your dance pad. The game will then display Joy1 B1 (or something similar like Joy2, Joy3). Your left arrow is now mapped.

Step 7: Repeat the same process for each of the remaining arrows "Right", "Up", "Down".

Step 8: Finally, select "Save To Disk" and then "Exit." 

If the mapping is resetting each time you play you can turn off the automapping feature by following these steps.

Step 1: Navigate to main menu > options > input options > advanced input options

Step 2:  change "automap joysticks" from On to Off 

Now when you reset the game or unplug your pad the saved mappings will stay the same.
