Level YOU up

Not gonna lie, this is GREAT for playing retro JRPGs with, you know the kind where you have turn based combat, using simple up, down, left, right, "A", "B", and sometimes "L" and "R" controls... Remap the controls on your favorite "retro game playing pc program". Go for an indoor adventure. You're welcome.

It works, 'nuff said.

Getting the second one for 10 off is also nice. The soft pad by itself is quite nice, its underside is a material with pretty good traction so it'll stick well and its pretty stiff too when folded out so as long as you're not too rough it won't crinkle or slip too much. I used one of them for the popular hard pad mod and it was perfect, definitely recommend it if a hard pad is out of your budget.

Inexpensive starter

This soft mat has some benefits (inexpensive, easy to store, and supports both ITG/DDR styles of arrows) but the downside is the mat tends to slip around on the carpet as you use it which eventually causes you to start missing steps unless you periodically glance down and re-orient yourself. That is true of pretty much any soft pad out there.

I used this pad to play on Project OutFox (a StepMania successor) without issues. The information included with the pad very clearly identified how to map the sensors and the DDRPad team seems very responsive and helpful with any questions.

If you can afford it and are sure you will stick with it, it would be better to go straight for a hard pad. This soft pad is a great beginner option, though! For the DIY crowd, there are some ways to convert these soft pads into hard pad (plywood, carpet tape, vinyl, etc) with guides online.

DDR Pad

Works great! So happy to have a source that will let us keep playing DDR.

Good for a soft pad, but it kinda just made me want the real thing more
